A SPACE computer vision scientist has joined Silicon Valley-backed start-up STOCS to help create the world’s first AI driven re-commerce marketplace.
Panagiotis Sidiropoulos, who previously worked for programmes on Mars mission data, has been brought on board as Head of AI to help innovate and shake up a $2.3 trillion sector.
STOCS is developing AI & OS to power global recommerce to plug $184bn in market leakage for brands and retailers, through a more data-driven and AI-tuned approach for surplus retail stock.
Sidiropoulos said: “I am really excited to be joining STOCS, a company that is looking to change the way that a global sector works.
“The potential for technology to innovate this sector is immense and I am looking forward to helping the team develop something unique that has the power to make a real difference to both the industry and the planet.”
As a Seed stage US company, STOCS supports some of the world’s biggest retailers and has already launched in the US, EU & UK with plans to open in the UAE later this year.
Pre-Seed investors include Silicon Valley’s Plug and Play Tech Ventures, the world’s biggest early stage investors, and Tenacity Ventures, ex-NEA Partner Ben Narasin’s fund.
CEO and founder Sheldon Miller said: “I am delighted Panos is joining our leadership team. He comes highly recommended and his skills will be critical in helping us develop ML & AI.
“The global resale market is broken largely because the data is broken. Data science, standardisation and simplification will help fix many of the pain points. We will then use machine learning, computer vision and AI, to drive triaging, grading and categorization at speed and scale. Panos has been immersed in this field for over 20 years. We are very excited to have him on board.”
STOCS, which stands for Software & Technology Optimizing Circular Sustainability, is building the world’s first AI-driven global resale market for enterprise retailers and brands.
Globally, some $2.3 trillion of retail surplus stock is generated every year through customer returns and overstocks. One third goes to landfill, creating methane emissions, which have 80 times the global warming impact of CO2. STOCS is building proprietary software and technology solutions to rethink the way reverse logistics works.
